About Us

Services We Provide

I see children and adults for Individual therapy, Marital/Family Therapy, and EMDR therapy.

Our right brain develops in relationship with others, because of this I provide therapy that focuses on current and prior relationships.  These early relationships provide the groundwork for attachments to others and map our brains for interactions and reactions for all other relationships that follow.  I use emotion focused therapy, attachment therapy, communication therapy, and EMDR therapy.  These different modalities assist in giving clarity to individual/world perceptions and repair attachment injuries.

My Expertise and Experience

I have expertise in treating depression, anxiety, PTSD, Phobias, Complicated grief, and Traumatic Brain Injuries.

Experiences that have brought on these symptoms/diagnoses include but are not limited to: sexual abuse/rape, domestic violence, being teased or bullied, divorces, car accidents, tragic deaths/losses, natural disasters like house fires, floods, or tornadoes, health related issues like heart attacks, surgeries, and chronic or terminal diagnoses.  Areas out of my expertise requiring a referral include: schizophrenia, bipolar, and addictions.  I can also provide adjunct EMDR therapy meaning if you have a primary therapist who is not trained in EMDR therapy but you suffer from trauma, I can see you specifically for EMDR therapy while you maintain your primary therapeutic relationship.

EMDR Research Foundation: One $5,000 dissertation grant was awarded in May 2016 to the following:

Michelle D. Morrissey, MS, LMFT | Northcentral University, Arizona
Project Title: EMDR-IGTP for Secondary Traumatic Stress/Vicarious Trauma among First Responders.

Abstract:
First responders experience daily exposure to critical incidences, which can increase the likelihood of developing vicarious trauma (VT) and secondary traumatic stress (STS).  This study will consider if the proposed treatment, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing-integrated group treatment protocol (EMDR-IGTP) can decrease PTSD-like symptoms associated with VT/STS and increase post-traumatic growth (PTG).  PTG has been defined as positive outcomes after exposure to traumatic events. Participants in this study will be nurses recruited from emergency rooms, EMS personnel, and firefighters who reside and/or work in the selected towns in Colorado.

Testimonials

  • Kristin Colloton

As a therapist, Michelle is non-judgmental, compassionate, and supportive.  I've recommended multiple patients to her individually.  Her EMDR skills are excellent. As a trainer, she has amazing energy, is thorough in her explanations, and when you are done you feel confident and supported in practicing EMDR. You can't go wrong with The Morrissey Institute.

This past July and September, I had the pleasure of taking EMDR Basic Training over two weekends with Mrs. Morrissey. Michelle is very passionate about life and helping people along on their journey. She is an excellent instructor and presents EMDR in a way that is informative, interesting, and engaging. She begins the training with a historical overview, the model, methods, and mechanisms of EMDR, and engages the participants in experiential exercises. Utilizing lectures, group practicum, and case consultations via video, she discusses the neurobiology, legal, ethical, and advanced methods of EMDR. I thoroughly enjoyed this training, and looked forward to weekly consultations with Michelle as I found her guidance invaluable and encouraging. I highly recommend training from Michelle, and if she were to offer advanced training in Montana, I will be attending.
